Genesis 18 | King James Bible |
Chapter 19 | |
| And there came4 two angels to Sodom at even; and Lot sat6 in the gate of Sodom: and Lot seeing4 [them] rose up4 to meet2 them; and he bowed101 himself with his face toward the ground; |
| And he said,4 Behold now, my lords, turn in,3 I pray you, into your servant's house, and tarry all night,3 and wash3 your feet, and ye shall rise up early,52 and go1 on your ways. And they said,4 Nay; but we will abide in the street all night.4 |
| And he pressed4 upon them greatly; and they turned in4 unto him, and entered4 into his house; and he made4 them a feast, and did bake1 unleavened bread, and they did eat.4 |
| But before they lay down,4 the men of the city, [even] the men of Sodom, compassed the house round,8 both old and young, all the people from every quarter: |
| And they called4 unto Lot, and said4 unto him, Where [are] the men which came in1 to thee this night? bring them out54 unto us, that we may know4 them. |
| And Lot went out4 at the door unto them, and shut1 the door after him, |
| |
| Behold now, I have two daughters which have not known1 man; let me, I pray you, bring them out55 unto you, and do3 ye to them as [is] good in your eyes: only unto these men do4 nothing; 1697 for therefore came1 they under the shadow of my roof. |
| And they said,4 Stand3 back. And they said4 [again], This one [fellow] came in1 to sojourn,2 and he will needs2 be a judge:4 now will we deal worse55 with thee, than with them. And they pressed4 sore upon the man, [even] Lot, and came near4 to break2 the door. |
| But the men put forth4 their hand, and pulled55 Lot into the house to them, and shut1 to the door. |
| And they smote52 the men that [were] at the door of the house with blindness, both small and great: so that they wearied4 themselves to find2 the door. |
| And the men said4 unto Lot, Hast thou here any besides? son in law, and thy sons, and thy daughters, and whatsoever thou hast in the city, bring [them] out54 of this place: |
| For we will destroy56 853 this place, because the cry of them is waxen great1 before the face of the LORD; and the LORD hath sent17 us to destroy15 it. |
| And Lot went out,4 and spake17 unto his sons in law, which married6 his daughters, and said,4 Up,3 get you out3 of this place; for the LORD will destroy56 this city. But he seemed as one that mocked18 unto his sons in law. |
| And when the morning arose,1 then the angels hastened55 Lot, saying,2 Arise,3 take3 thy wife, and thy two daughters, which are here;12 lest thou be consumed11 in the iniquity of the city. |
| And while he lingered,118 the men laid hold55 upon his hand, and upon the hand of his wife, and upon the hand of his two daughters; the LORD being merciful unto him: and they brought him forth,55 and set him55 without the city. |
| And it came to pass, when they had brought them forth53 abroad, that he said,4 Escape10 for thy life; look55 not behind thee, neither stay4 thou in all the plain; escape10 to the mountain, lest thou be consumed.11 |
| |
| Behold now, thy servant hath found1 grace in thy sight, and thou hast magnified55 thy mercy, which thou hast shewed1 unto me in saving53 my life; and I cannot 3201 4 escape9 to the mountain, lest some evil take4 me, and I die:1 |
| Behold now, this city [is] near to flee2 unto, and it [is] a little one: Oh, let me escape11 thither, ([is] it not a little one?) and my soul shall live.4 |
| And he said4 unto him, See, I have accepted1 thee concerning this thing also, that I will not overthrow2 this city, for the which thou hast spoken.14 |
| Haste16 thee, escape10 thither; for I cannot 3201 4 do2 any thing till thou be come2 thither. Therefore the name of the city was called1 Zoar. |
| The sun was risen1 upon the earth when Lot entered1 into Zoar. |
| Then the LORD rained52 upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the LORD out of heaven; |
| And he overthrew4 those cities, and all the plain, and all the inhabitants6 of the cities, and that which grew upon the ground. |
| But his wife looked55 back from behind him, and she became a pillar of salt. |
| And Abraham gat up early55 in the morning to the place where he stood1 before the LORD: |
| And he looked55 toward Sodom and Gomorrah, and toward all the land of the plain, and beheld,4 and, lo, the smoke of the country went up1 as the smoke of a furnace. |
| And it came to pass, when God destroyed15 the cities of the plain, that God remembered4 Abraham, and sent17 Lot out of the midst of the overthrow, when he overthrew2 the cities in the which Lot dwelt.1 |
| And Lot went up4 out of Zoar, and dwelt4 in the mountain, and his two daughters with him; for he feared1 to dwell2 in Zoar: and he dwelt4 in a cave, he and his two daughters. |
| And the firstborn said4 unto the younger, Our father [is] old,1 and [there is] not a man in the earth to come in2 unto us after the manner of all the earth: |
| Come,3 let us make our father drink55 wine, and we will lie4 with him, that we may preserve17 seed of our father. |
| And they made their father drink55 wine that night: and the firstborn went in,4 and lay4 with her father; and he perceived1 not when she lay down,2 nor when she arose.2 |
| And it came to pass on the morrow, that the firstborn said4 unto the younger, Behold, I lay1 yesternight with my father: let us make him drink55 wine this night also; and go thou in,3 [and] lie3 with him, that we may preserve17 seed of our father. |
| And they made their father drink55 wine that night also: and the younger arose,4 and lay4 with him; and he perceived1 not when she lay down,2 nor when she arose.2 |
| Thus were both the daughters of Lot with child4 by their father. |
| And the firstborn bare4 a son, and called4 his name Moab: the same [is] the father of the Moabites unto this day. |
| And the younger, she also bare1 a son, and called4 his name Benammi: the same [is] the father of the children of Ammon unto this day. |
