The Second Book of Moses, Called Exodus

Chapter 4

1

And Moses answered4 and said,4 But, behold, they will not believe55 me, nor hearken4 unto my voice: for they will say,4 The LORD hath not appeared8 unto thee.

2

And the LORD said4 unto him, What [is] that in thine hand? And he said,4 A rod.

3

And he said,4 Cast54 it on the ground. And he cast55 it on the ground, and it became a serpent; and Moses fled4 from before it.

4

And the LORD said4 unto Moses, Put forth3 thine hand, and take3 it by the tail. And he put forth4 his hand, and caught55 it, and it became a rod in his hand:

5

That they may believe55 that the LORD God of their fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, hath appeared8 unto thee.

6

And the LORD said4 furthermore unto him, Put54 now thine hand into thy bosom. And he put55 his hand into his bosom: and when he took it out,55 behold, his hand [was] leprous30 as snow.

7

And he said,4 Put thine hand into thy bosom again.54 And he put his hand into his bosom again;55 and plucked it out55 of his bosom, and, behold, it was turned1 again as his [other] flesh.

8

And it shall come to pass, if they will not believe55 thee, neither hearken4 to the voice of the first sign, that they will believe52 the voice of the latter sign.

9

And it shall come to pass, if they will not believe55 also these two signs, neither hearken4 unto thy voice, that thou shalt take1 of the water of the river, and pour1 [it] upon the dry [land]: and the water which thou takest4 out of the river shall become blood upon the dry [land].

10

And Moses said4 unto the LORD, O my Lord, I [am] not eloquent, neither heretofore, 8543 nor since thou hast spoken15 unto thy servant: but I [am] slow of speech, and of a slow tongue.

11

And the LORD said4 unto him, Who hath made1 man's mouth? or who maketh4 the dumb, or deaf, or the seeing, or the blind? have not I the LORD?

12

Now therefore go,3 and I will be with thy mouth, and teach52 thee what thou shalt say.17

13

And he said,4 O my Lord, send,3 I pray thee, by the hand [of him whom] thou wilt send.4

14

And the anger of the LORD was kindled4 against Moses, and he said,4 [Is] not Aaron the Levite thy brother? I know1 that he can speak17 well.15 And also, behold, he cometh forth6 to meet2 thee: and when he seeth1 thee, he will be glad1 in his heart.

15

And thou shalt speak14 unto him, and put1 words in his mouth: and I will be with thy mouth, and with his mouth, and will teach52 you what ye shall do.4

16

And he shall be thy spokesman14 unto the people: and he shall be, [even] he shall be to thee instead of a mouth, and thou shalt be to him instead of God.

17

And thou shalt take4 this rod in thine hand, wherewith thou shalt do4 signs.

18

And Moses went4 and returned4 to Jethro his father in law,6 and said4 unto him, Let me go,4 I pray thee, and return4 unto my brethren which [are] in Egypt, and see4 whether they be yet alive. And Jethro said4 to Moses, Go3 in peace.

19

And the LORD said4 unto Moses in Midian, Go,3 return3 into Egypt: for all the men are dead1 which sought18 thy life.

20

And Moses took4 his wife and his sons, and set55 them upon an ass, and he returned4 to the land of Egypt: and Moses took4 the rod of God in his hand.

21

And the LORD said4 unto Moses, When thou goest2 to return2 into Egypt, see3 that thou do1 all those wonders before Pharaoh, which I have put1 in thine hand: but I will harden17 his heart, that he shall not let the people go.17

22

And thou shalt say1 unto Pharaoh, Thus saith1 the LORD, Israel [is] my son, [even] my firstborn:

23

And I say4 unto thee, Let my son go,16 that he may serve4 me: and if thou refuse17 to let him go,15 behold, I will slay6 thy son, [even] thy firstborn.

24

And it came to pass by the way in the inn, that the LORD met4 him, and sought17 to kill53 him.

25

Then Zipporah took4 a sharp stone, and cut off4 the foreskin of her son, and cast55 [it] at his feet, and said,4 Surely a bloody husband [art] thou to me.

26

So he let him go:4 then she said,1 A bloody husband [thou art], because of the circumcision.

27

And the LORD said4 to Aaron, Go3 into the wilderness to meet2 Moses. And he went,4 and met4 him in the mount of God, and kissed4 him.

28

And Moses told55 Aaron all the words of the LORD who had sent1 him, and all the signs which he had commanded14 him.

29

And Moses and Aaron went4 and gathered4 together all the elders of the children of Israel:

30

And Aaron spake17 all the words which the LORD had spoken14 unto Moses, and did4 the signs in the sight of the people.

31

And the people believed:55 and when they heard4 that the LORD had visited1 the children of Israel, and that he had looked1 upon their affliction, then they bowed their heads4 and worshipped.101
