The Second Book of Moses, Called Exodus

Chapter 15

1

Then sang4 Moses and the children of Israel this song unto the LORD, and spake,4 saying,2 I will sing4 unto the LORD, for he hath triumphed1 gloriously:2 the horse and his rider6 hath he thrown1 into the sea.

2

The LORD [is] my strength and song, and he is become my salvation: he [is] my God, and I will prepare him an habitation;55 my father's God, and I will exalt34 him.

3

The LORD [is] a man of war: the LORD [is] his name.

4

Pharaoh's chariots and his host hath he cast1 into the sea: his chosen captains also are drowned27 in the Red sea.

5

The depths have covered17 them: they sank1 into the bottom as a stone.

6

Thy right hand, O LORD, is become glorious12 in power: thy right hand, O LORD, hath dashed in pieces4 the enemy.6

7

And in the greatness of thine excellency thou hast overthrown4 them that rose up against5 thee: thou sentest forth17 thy wrath, [which] consumed4 them as stubble.

8

And with the blast of thy nostrils the waters were gathered together,8 the floods6 stood upright8 as an heap, [and] the depths were congealed1 in the heart of the sea.

9

The enemy6 said,1 I will pursue,4 I will overtake,55 I will divide17 the spoil; my lust shall be satisfied4 upon them; I will draw55 my sword, my hand shall destroy55 them.

10

Thou didst blow1 with thy wind, the sea covered14 them: they sank1 as lead in the mighty waters.

11

Who [is] like unto thee, O LORD, among the gods? who [is] like thee, glorious12 in holiness, fearful12 [in] praises, doing6 wonders?

12

Thou stretchedst out1 thy right hand, the earth swallowed4 them.

13

Thou in thy mercy hast led forth1 the people [which] thou hast redeemed:1 thou hast guided14 [them] in thy strength unto thy holy habitation.

14

The people shall hear,1 [and] be afraid:4 sorrow shall take hold1 on the inhabitants6 of Palestina.

15

Then the dukes of Edom shall be amazed;8 the mighty men of Moab, trembling shall take hold upon them;4 all the inhabitants6 of Canaan shall melt away.8

16

Fear and dread shall fall4 upon them; by the greatness of thine arm they shall be [as] still4 as a stone; till thy people pass over,4 O LORD, till the people pass over,4 [which] thou hast purchased.1

17

Thou shalt bring them in,55 and plant4 them in the mountain of thine inheritance, [in] the place, O LORD, [which] thou hast made1 for thee to dwell in,2 [in] the Sanctuary, O Lord, [which] thy hands have established.31

18

The LORD shall reign4 for ever and ever.

19

For the horse of Pharaoh went in1 with his chariots and with his horsemen into the sea, and the LORD brought again55 the waters of the sea upon them; but the children of Israel went1 on dry [land] in the midst of the sea.

20

And Miriam the prophetess, the sister of Aaron, took4 a timbrel in her hand; and all the women went out4 after her with timbrels and with dances.

21

And Miriam answered4 them, Sing3 ye to the LORD, for he hath triumphed1 gloriously;2 the horse and his rider6 hath he thrown1 into the sea.

22

So Moses brought55 Israel from the Red sea, and they went out4 into the wilderness of Shur; and they went4 three days in the wilderness, and found1 no water.

23

And when they came4 to Marah, they could1 not drink2 of the waters of Marah, for they [were] bitter: therefore the name of it was called1 Marah.

24

And the people murmured11 against Moses, saying,2 What shall we drink?4

25

And he cried4 unto the LORD; and the LORD shewed55 him a tree, [which] when he had cast55 into the waters, the waters were made sweet:4 there he made1 for them a statute and an ordinance, and there he proved14 them,

26

And said,4 If thou wilt diligently2 hearken4 to the voice of the LORD thy God, and wilt do4 that which is right in his sight, and wilt give ear52 to his commandments, and keep1 all his statutes, I will put4 none of these diseases upon thee, which I have brought1 upon the Egyptians: for I [am] the LORD that healeth6 thee.

27

And they came4 to Elim, where [were] twelve 6240 wells of water, and threescore and ten palm trees: and they encamped4 there by the waters.
