Deuteronomy 23 | King James Bible |
Chapter 24 | |
| When a man hath taken4 a wife, and married1 her, and it come to pass that she find4 no favour in his eyes, because he hath found1 some uncleanness in her: then let him write1 her a bill of divorcement, and give1 [it] in her hand, and send14 her out of his house. |
| And when she is departed1 out of his house, she may go1 and be another man's [wife]. |
| And [if] the latter husband hate1 her, and write1 her a bill of divorcement, and giveth1 [it] in her hand, and sendeth14 her out of his house; or if the latter husband die,4 which took1 her [to be] his wife; |
| Her former husband, which sent her away,14 may4 not take2 her again2 to be his wife, after that she is defiled;120 for that [is] abomination before the LORD: and thou shalt not cause the land to sin,55 which the LORD thy God giveth6 thee [for] an inheritance. |
| When a man hath taken4 a new wife, he shall not go out4 to war, neither shall he be charged4 with any business: [but] he shall be free at home one year, and shall cheer up14 his wife which he hath taken.1 |
| No man shall take the nether or the upper millstone to pledge:4 for he taketh [a man's] life to pledge.6 |
| If a man be found11 stealing6 any of his brethren of the children of Israel, and maketh merchandise98 of him, or selleth1 him; then that thief shall die;1 and thou shalt put evil away14 from among you. |
| Take heed10 in the plague of leprosy, that thou observe2 diligently, and do2 according to all that the priests the Levites shall teach55 you: as I commanded14 them, [so] ye shall observe4 to do.2 |
| Remember2 what the LORD thy God did1 unto Miriam by the way, after that ye were come forth2 out of Egypt. |
| When thou dost lend55 thy brother any thing, thou shalt not go4 into his house to fetch2 his pledge. |
| Thou shalt stand4 abroad, and the man to whom thou dost lend6 shall bring out55 the pledge abroad unto thee. |
| And if the man [be] poor, thou shalt not sleep4 with his pledge: |
| In any case53 thou shalt deliver him the pledge again55 when the sun goeth down,2 that he may sleep1 in his own raiment, and bless14 thee: and it shall be righteousness unto thee before the LORD thy God. |
| Thou shalt not oppress4 an hired servant [that is] poor and needy, [whether he be] of thy brethren, or of thy strangers that [are] in thy land within thy gates: |
| At his day thou shalt give4 [him] his hire, neither shall the sun go down4 upon it; for he [is] poor, and setteth6 his heart upon it: lest he cry4 against thee unto the LORD, and it be sin unto thee. |
| The fathers shall not be put to death93 for the children, neither shall the children be put to death93 for the fathers: every man shall be put to death93 for his own sin. |
| Thou shalt not pervert55 the judgment of the stranger, [nor] of the fatherless; nor take a widow's raiment to pledge:4 |
| But thou shalt remember1 that thou wast a bondman in Egypt, and the LORD thy God redeemed4 thee thence: therefore I command18 thee to do2 this thing. |
| When thou cuttest down4 thine harvest in thy field, and hast forgot1 a sheaf in the field, thou shalt not go again4 to fetch2 it: it shall be for the stranger, for the fatherless, and for the widow: that the LORD thy God may bless17 thee in all the work of thine hands. |
| When thou beatest4 thine olive tree, thou shalt not go over the boughs17 again: it shall be for the stranger, for the fatherless, and for the widow. |
| When thou gatherest4 the grapes of thy vineyard, thou shalt not glean25 [it] afterward: it shall be for the stranger, for the fatherless, and for the widow. |
| And thou shalt remember1 that thou wast a bondman in the land of Egypt: therefore I command18 thee to do2 this thing. |
