The Fifth Book of Moses, called Deuteronomy

Chapter 27

1

And Moses with the elders of Israel commanded17 the people, saying,2 Keep2 all the commandments which I command18 you this day.

2

And it shall be on the day when ye shall pass over4 Jordan unto the land which the LORD thy God giveth6 thee, that thou shalt set thee up52 great stones, and plaister1 them with plaister:

3

And thou shalt write1 upon them all the words of this law, when thou art passed over,2 that thou mayest go in4 unto the land which the LORD thy God giveth6 thee, a land that floweth6 with milk and honey; as the LORD God of thy fathers hath promised14 thee.

4

Therefore it shall be when ye be gone over2 Jordan, [that] ye shall set up55 these stones, which I command18 you this day, in mount Ebal, and thou shalt plaister1 them with plaister.

5

And there shalt thou build1 an altar unto the LORD thy God, an altar of stones: thou shalt not lift up55 [any] iron [tool] upon them.

6

Thou shalt build4 the altar of the LORD thy God of whole stones: and thou shalt offer52 burnt offerings thereon unto the LORD thy God:

7

And thou shalt offer1 peace offerings, and shalt eat1 there, and rejoice1 before the LORD thy God.

8

And thou shalt write1 upon the stones all the words of this law very53 plainly.16

9

And Moses and the priests the Levites spake17 unto all Israel, saying,2 Take heed,54 and hearken,3 O Israel; this day thou art become8 the people of the LORD thy God.

10

Thou shalt therefore obey1 the voice of the LORD thy God, and do1 his commandments and his statutes, which I command18 thee this day.

11

And Moses charged17 the people the same day, saying,2

12

These shall stand4 upon mount Gerizim to bless15 the people, when ye are come over2 Jordan; Simeon, and Levi, and Judah, and Issachar, and Joseph, and Benjamin:

13

And these shall stand4 upon mount Ebal to curse; Reuben, Gad, and Asher, and Zebulun, Dan, and Naphtali.

14

And the Levites shall speak,1 and say1 unto all the men of Israel with a loud6 voice,

15

Cursed7 [be] the man that maketh4 [any] graven or molten image, an abomination unto the LORD, the work of the hands of the craftsman, and putteth1 [it] in [a] secret [place]. And all the people shall answer1 and say,1 Amen.

16

Cursed7 [be] he that setteth light56 by his father or his mother. And all the people shall say,1 Amen.

17

Cursed7 [be] he that removeth56 his neighbour's landmark. And all the people shall say,1 Amen.

18

Cursed7 [be] he that maketh the blind to wander56 out of the way. And all the people shall say,1 Amen.

19

Cursed7 [be] he that perverteth56 the judgment of the stranger, fatherless, and widow. And all the people shall say,1 Amen.

20

Cursed7 [be] he that lieth6 with his father's wife; because he uncovereth14 his father's skirt. And all the people shall say,1 Amen.

21

Cursed7 [be] he that lieth6 with any manner of beast. And all the people shall say,1 Amen.

22

Cursed7 [be] he that lieth6 with his sister, the daughter of his father, or the daughter of his mother. And all the people shall say,1 Amen.

23

Cursed7 [be] he that lieth6 with his mother in law.6 And all the people shall say,1 Amen.

24

Cursed7 [be] he that smiteth56 his neighbour secretly. And all the people shall say,1 Amen.

25

Cursed7 [be] he that taketh6 reward to slay53 an innocent 1818 person. And all the people shall say,1 Amen.

26

Cursed7 [be] he that confirmeth55 not [all] the words of this law to do2 them. And all the people shall say,1 Amen.
