| Chapter 18 |
| Now after this it came to pass, that David smote55 the Philistines, and subdued55 them, and took4 Gath and her towns out of the hand of the Philistines. |
| And he smote55 Moab; and the Moabites became David's servants, [and] brought6 gifts. |
| And David smote55 Hadarezer king of Zobah unto Hamath, as he went2 to stablish53 his dominion by the river Euphrates. |
| And David took4 from him a thousand chariots, and seven thousand horsemen, and twenty thousand footmen: 7273 David also houghed17 all the chariot [horses], but reserved55 of them an hundred chariots. |
| And when the Syrians of Damascus came4 to help2 Hadarezer king of Zobah, David slew55 of the Syrians two and twenty thousand men. |
| Then David put4 [garrisons] in Syriadamascus; 1834 and the Syrians became David's servants, [and] brought6 gifts. Thus the LORD preserved55 David whithersoever he went.1 |
| And David took4 the shields of gold that were on the servants of Hadarezer, and brought55 them to Jerusalem. |
| Likewise from Tibhath, and from Chun, cities of Hadarezer, brought1 David very much brass, wherewith Solomon made1 the brasen sea, and the pillars, and the vessels of brass. |
| Now when Tou king of Hamath heard4 how David had smitten52 all the host of Hadarezer king of Zobah; |
| He sent4 Hadoram his son to king David, to enquire2 of his welfare, and to congratulate15 him, because he had fought8 against Hadarezer, and smitten55 him; (for Hadarezer had war 4421 with Tou;) and [with him] all manner of vessels of gold and silver and brass. |
| Them also king David dedicated52 unto the LORD, with the silver and the gold that he brought1 from all [these] nations; from Edom, and from Moab, and from the children of Ammon, and from the Philistines, and from Amalek. |
| Moreover Abishai the son of Zeruiah slew52 of the Edomites in the valley of salt eighteen 6240 thousand. |
| And he put4 garrisons in Edom; and all the Edomites became David's servants. Thus the LORD preserved55 David whithersoever he went.1 |
| So David reigned4 over all Israel, and executed6 judgment and justice among all his people. |
| And Joab the son of Zeruiah [was] over the host; and Jehoshaphat the son of Ahilud, recorder.56 |
| And Zadok the son of Ahitub, and Abimelech the son of Abiathar, [were] the priests; and Shavsha was scribe;6 |
| And Benaiah the son of Jehoiada [was] over the Cherethites and the Pelethites; and the sons of David [were] chief about the king. |
