The Book of Job

Chapter 37

1

At this also my heart trembleth,4 and is moved4 out of his place.

2

Hear3 attentively2 the noise of his voice, and the sound [that] goeth out4 of his mouth.

3

He directeth14 8281 4 it under the whole heaven, and his lightning unto the ends of the earth.

4

After it a voice roareth:4 he thundereth55 with the voice of his excellency; and he will not stay17 them when his voice is heard.11

5

God thundereth55 marvellously12 with his voice; great things doeth6 he, which we cannot comprehend.4

6

For he saith4 to the snow, Be3 thou [on] the earth; likewise to the small rain, and to the great rain of his strength.

7

He sealeth up4 the hand of every man; that all men may know2 his work.

8

Then the beasts go4 into dens, and remain4 in their places.

9

Out of the south cometh4 the whirlwind: and cold out of the north.

10

By the breath of God frost is given:4 and the breadth of the waters is straitened.

11

Also by watering he wearieth55 the thick cloud: he scattereth55 his bright cloud:

12

And it is turned102 round about by his counsels: that they may do whatsoever he commandeth17 them upon the face of the world in the earth.

13

He causeth it to come,55 whether for correction, or for his land, or for mercy.

14

Hearken54 unto this, O Job: stand still,3 and consider112 the wondrous works12 of God.

15

Dost thou know4 when God disposed2 them, and caused the light of his cloud to shine?52

16

Dost thou know4 the balancings of the clouds, the wondrous works of him which is perfect in knowledge?

17

How thy garments [are] warm, when he quieteth53 the earth by the south [wind]?

18

Hast thou with him spread out55 the sky, [which is] strong, [and] as a molten94 looking glass?

19

Teach54 us what we shall say4 unto him; [for] we cannot order4 [our speech] by reason of darkness.

20

Shall it be told29 him that I speak?17 if a man speak,1 surely he shall be swallowed up.29

21

And now [men] see1 not the bright light which [is] in the clouds: but the wind passeth,1 and cleanseth17 them.

22

Fair weather cometh4 out of the north: with God [is] terrible12 majesty.

23

[Touching] the Almighty, we cannot find him out:1 [he is] excellent in power, and in judgment, and in plenty of justice: he will not afflict.17

24

Men do therefore fear1 him: he respecteth4 not any [that are] wise of heart.
