Chapter 2

Why do the heathen rage,¹ and the people imagine⁴ a vain thing?

The kings of the earth set¹⁰¹ themselves, and the rulers⁶ take counsel⁸ together, against the LORD, and against his anointed, [saying],

Let us break¹⁷ their bands asunder, and cast away⁵⁵ their cords from us.

He that sitteth⁶ in the heavens shall laugh:⁴ the Lord shall have them in derision.⁴

Then shall he speak¹⁷ unto them in his wrath, and vex¹⁷ them in his sore displeasure.

Yet have I set¹ my king upon my holy hill of Zion.

I will declare¹⁷ the decree: the LORD hath said¹ unto me, Thou [art] my Son; this day have I begotten¹ thee.

Ask³ of me, and I shall give⁴ [thee] the heathen [for] thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth [for] thy possession.

Thou shalt break⁴ them with a rod of iron; thou shalt dash them in pieces¹⁷ like a potter's⁶ vessel.

Be wise⁵⁴ now therefore, O ye kings: be instructed,¹⁰ ye judges⁶ of the earth.

Serve³ the LORD with fear, and rejoice³ with trembling.

Kiss¹⁶ the Son, lest he be angry,⁴ and ye perish⁴ [from] the way, when his wrath is kindled⁴ but a little. Blessed [are] all they that put their trust⁶ in him.
