Chapter 17

1

A Prayer of David.
Hear3 the right, O LORD, attend54 unto my cry, give ear54 unto my prayer, [that goeth] not out of feigned lips.

2

Let my sentence come forth4 from thy presence; let thine eyes behold4 the things that are equal.

3

Thou hast proved1 mine heart; thou hast visited1 [me] in the night; thou hast tried1 me, [and] shalt find4 nothing; I am purposed2 [that] my mouth shall not transgress.4

4

Concerning the works of men, by the word of thy lips I have kept1 [me from] the paths of the destroyer.

5

Hold up2 my goings in thy paths, [that] my footsteps slip8 not.

6

I have called1 upon thee, for thou wilt hear4 me, O God: incline54 thine ear unto me, [and hear]3 my speech.

7

Shew thy marvellous54 lovingkindness, O thou that savest56 by thy right hand them which put their trust6 [in thee] from those that rise up102 [against them].

8

Keep3 me as the apple of the eye, 5869 hide55 me under the shadow of thy wings,

9

From the wicked that oppress1 me, [from] my deadly enemies,6 [who] compass me about.55

10

They are inclosed1 in their own fat: with their mouth they speak14 proudly.

11

They have now compassed1 us in our steps: they have set4 their eyes bowing down2 to the earth;

12

Like as a lion [that] is greedy4 of his prey,2 and as it were a young lion lurking6 in secret places.

13

Arise,3 O LORD, disappoint16 him, cast him down:54 deliver16 my soul from the wicked, [which is] thy sword:

14

From men [which are] thy hand, O LORD, from men of the world, [which have] their portion in [this] life, and whose belly thou fillest17 with thy hid7 6840 [treasure]: they are full4 of children, and leave52 the rest of their [substance] to their babes.

15

As for me, I will behold4 thy face in righteousness: I shall be satisfied,4 when I awake,53 with thy likeness.
