Chapter 31

To the chief Musician,¹⁸ A Psalm of David.
In thee, O LORD, do I put my trust;¹ let me never ⁵⁷⁶⁹ be ashamed:⁴ deliver¹⁶ me in thy righteousness.

Bow down⁵⁴ thine ear to me; deliver⁵⁴ me speedily: be thou my strong rock, for an house of defence to save⁵³ me.

For thou [art] my rock and my fortress; therefore for thy name's sake lead⁵⁵ me, and guide¹⁷ me.

Pull me out⁵⁵ of the net that they have laid privily¹ for me: for thou [art] my strength.

Into thine hand I commit⁵⁵ my spirit: thou hast redeemed¹ me, O LORD God of truth.

I have hated¹ them that regard⁶ lying vanities: but I trust¹ in the LORD.

I will be glad⁴ and rejoice⁴ in thy mercy: for thou hast considered¹ my trouble; thou hast known¹ my soul in adversities;

And hast not shut me up⁵² into the hand of the enemy:⁶ thou hast set⁵² my feet in a large room.

Have mercy³ upon me, O LORD, for I am in trouble:¹ mine eye is consumed¹ with grief, [yea], my soul and my belly.

For my life is spent¹ with grief, and my years with sighing: my strength faileth¹ because of mine iniquity, and my bones are consumed.¹

I was a reproach among all mine enemies,⁶ but especially among my neighbours, and a fear to mine acquaintance:³⁰ they that did see⁶ me without fled¹ from me.

I am forgotten⁸ as a dead man⁵ out of mind: I am like a broken⁶ vessel.

For I have heard¹ the slander of many: fear [was] on every side: while they took counsel⁹ together against me, they devised¹ to take away² my life.

But I trusted¹ in thee, O LORD: I said,¹ Thou [art] my God.

My times [are] in thy hand: deliver⁵⁴ me from the hand of mine enemies,⁶ and from them that persecute⁶ me.

Make thy face to shine⁵⁴ upon thy servant: save⁵⁴ me for thy mercies' sake.

Let me not be ashamed,⁴ O LORD; for I have called¹ upon thee: let the wicked be ashamed,⁴ [and] let them be silent⁴ in the grave.

Let the lying lips be put to silence;¹¹ which speak⁶ grievous things proudly and contemptuously against the righteous.

[Oh] how great [is] thy goodness, which thou hast laid up¹ for them that fear thee; [which] thou hast wrought¹ for them that trust⁶ in thee before the sons of men!

Thou shalt hide⁵⁵ them in the secret of thy presence from the pride of man: thou shalt keep them secretly⁴ in a pavilion from the strife of tongues.

Blessed⁷ [be] the LORD: for he hath shewed me his marvellous⁵² kindness in a strong city.

For I said¹ in my haste,² I am cut off⁸ from before thine eyes: nevertheless thou heardest¹ the voice of my supplications when I cried¹⁵ unto thee.

O love³ the LORD, all ye his saints: [for] the LORD preserveth⁶ the faithful,⁷ and plentifully rewardeth¹⁸ the proud doer.⁶

Be of good courage,³ and he shall strengthen⁵⁵ your heart, all ye that hope¹⁸ in the LORD.
