Chapter 52

1

To the chief Musician,18 Maschil, 7919 56 [A Psalm] of David, when Doeg the Edomite came2 and told55 Saul, and said4 unto him, David is come1 to the house of Ahimelech.
Why boastest101 thou thyself in mischief, O mighty man? the goodness of God [endureth] continually. 3117

2

Thy tongue deviseth4 mischiefs; like a sharp30 razor, working6 deceitfully.

3

Thou lovest1 evil more than good; [and] lying rather than to speak15 righteousness. Selah.

4

Thou lovest1 all devouring words, O [thou] deceitful tongue.

5

God shall likewise destroy4 thee for ever, he shall take thee away,4 and pluck thee4 out of [thy] dwelling place, and root thee out14 of the land of the living. Selah.

6

The righteous also shall see,4 and fear,4 and shall laugh4 at him:

7

Lo, [this is] the man [that] made4 not God his strength; but trusted4 in the abundance of his riches, [and] strengthened4 himself in his wickedness.

8

But I [am] like a green olive tree in the house of God: I trust1 in the mercy of God for ever and ever.

9

I will praise55 thee for ever, because thou hast done1 [it]: and I will wait17 on thy name; for [it is] good before thy saints.
