Chapter 57

To the chief Musician,¹⁸ Altaschith, ^{7843 55 516} Michtam of David, when he fled² from Saul in the cave.
Be merciful³ unto me, O God, be merciful³ unto me: for my soul trusteth¹ in thee: yea, in the shadow of thy wings will I make my refuge,⁴ until [these] calamities be overpast.⁴

I will cry⁴ unto God most high; unto God that performeth⁶ [all things] for me.

He shall send⁴ from heaven, and save⁵⁵ me [from] the reproach¹⁴ of him that would swallow me up.⁶ Selah. God shall send⁴ forth his mercy and his truth.

My soul [is] among lions: [and] I lie⁴ [even among] them that are set on fire,⁶ [even] the sons of men, whose teeth [are] spears and arrows, and their tongue a sharp sword.

Be thou exalted,³ O God, above the heavens; [let] thy glory [be] above all the earth.

They have prepared⁵² a net for my steps; my soul is bowed down:¹ they have digged¹ a pit before me, into the midst whereof they are fallen¹ [themselves]. Selah.

My heart is fixed,¹² O God, my heart is fixed:¹² I will sing⁴ and give praise.¹⁷

Awake up,³ my glory; awake,³ psaltery and harp: I [myself] will awake⁵⁵ early.

I will praise⁵⁵ thee, O Lord, among the people: I will sing¹⁷ unto thee among the nations.

For thy mercy [is] great unto the heavens, and thy truth unto the clouds.

Be thou exalted,³ O God, above the heavens: [let] thy glory [be] above all the earth.
