Chapter 58

1

To the chief Musician,18 Altaschith, 7843 55 516 Michtam of David.
Do ye indeed speak17 righteousness, O congregation? do ye judge4 uprightly, O ye sons of men?

2

Yea, in heart ye work4 wickedness; ye weigh17 the violence of your hands in the earth.

3

The wicked are estranged1 from the womb: they go astray1 as soon as they be born, speaking6 lies.

4

Their poison [is] like the poison of a serpent: [they are] like the deaf adder [that] stoppeth55 her ear;

5

Which will not hearken4 to the voice of charmers,18 charming6 2267 never so wisely.30

6

Break3 their teeth, O God, in their mouth: break out2 the great teeth of the young lions, O LORD.

7

Let them melt away11 as waters [which] run101 continually: [when] he bendeth4 [his bow to shoot] his arrows, let them be as cut in pieces.113

8

As a snail [which] melteth, let [every one of them] pass away:4 [like] the untimely birth of a woman, [that] they may not see1 the sun.

9

Before your pots can feel4 the thorns, he shall take them away as with a whirlwind,4 both living, and in [his] wrath.

10

The righteous shall rejoice4 when he seeth1 the vengeance: he shall wash4 his feet in the blood of the wicked.

11

So that a man shall say,4 Verily [there is] a reward for the righteous: verily he is a God that judgeth6 in the earth.
