Chapter 59

1

To the chief Musician,18 Altaschith, 7843 55 516 Michtam of David; when Saul sent,2 and they watched4 the house to kill him.
53 Deliver54 me from mine enemies,6 O my God: defend17 me from them that rise up102 against me.

2

Deliver54 me from the workers6 of iniquity, and save54 me from bloody men.

3

For, lo, they lie in wait1 for my soul: the mighty are gathered4 against me; not [for] my transgression, nor [for] my sin, O LORD.

4

They run4 and prepare113 themselves without [my] fault: awake3 to help2 me, and behold.3

5

Thou therefore, O LORD God of hosts, the God of Israel, awake54 to visit2 all the heathen: be not merciful4 to any wicked transgressors.6 Selah.

6

They return4 at evening: they make a noise4 like a dog, and go round about25 the city.

7

Behold, they belch out55 with their mouth: swords [are] in their lips: for who, [say they], doth hear?6

8

But thou, O LORD, shalt laugh4 at them; thou shalt have all the heathen in derision.4

9

[Because of] his strength will I wait4 upon thee: for God [is] my defence.

10

The God of my mercy shall prevent17 me: God shall let me see55 [my desire] upon mine enemies.6

11

Slay4 them not, lest my people forget:4 scatter54 them by thy power; and bring them down,54 O Lord our shield.

12

[For] the sin of their mouth [and] the words of their lips let them even be taken11 in their pride: and for cursing and lying [which] they speak.17

13

Consume16 [them] in wrath, consume16 [them], that they [may] not [be]: and let them know4 that God ruleth6 in Jacob unto the ends of the earth. Selah.

14

And at evening let them return;4 [and] let them make a noise4 like a dog, and go round about25 the city.

15

Let them wander up and down55 5128 4 for meat,2 and grudge4 if they be not satisfied.4

16

But I will sing4 of thy power; yea, I will sing aloud17 of thy mercy in the morning: for thou hast been my defence and refuge in the day of my trouble.

17

Unto thee, O my strength, will I sing:17 for God [is] my defence, [and] the God of my mercy.
