Chapter 71

In thee, O LORD, do I put my trust:¹ let me never ⁵⁷⁶⁹ be put to confusion.⁴

Deliver⁵⁵ me in thy righteousness, and cause me to escape:¹⁷ incline⁵⁴ thine ear unto me, and save⁵⁴ me.

Be thou my strong habitation, whereunto I may continually resort:² thou hast given commandment¹⁴ to save⁵³ me; for thou [art] my rock and my fortress.

Deliver¹⁶ me, O my God, out of the hand of the wicked, out of the hand of the unrighteous¹⁸ and cruel man.⁶

For thou [art] my hope, O Lord GOD: [thou art] my trust from my youth.

By thee have I been holden up⁸ from the womb: thou art he that took⁶ me out of my mother's bowels: my praise [shall be] continually of thee.

I am as a wonder unto many; but thou [art] my strong refuge.

Let my mouth be filled¹¹ [with] thy praise [and with] thy honour all the day.

Cast me not off⁵⁵ in the time of old age; forsake⁴ me not when my strength faileth.²

For mine enemies⁶ speak¹ against me; and they that lay wait⁶ for my soul take counsel⁸ together,

Saying,² God hath forsaken¹ him: persecute³ and take³ him; for [there is] none to deliver⁵⁶ [him].

O God, be not far⁴ from me: O my God, make haste^{3 2439} for my help.

Let them be confounded⁴ [and] consumed⁴ that are adversaries⁶ to my soul; let them be covered⁴ [with] reproach and dishonour that seek¹⁸ my hurt.

But I will hope¹⁷ continually, and will yet praise thee more and more.⁵²

My mouth shall shew forth¹⁷ thy righteousness [and] thy salvation all the day; for I know¹ not the numbers [thereof].

I will go in⁴ the strength of the Lord GOD: I will make mention⁵⁵ of thy righteousness, [even] of thine only.

O God, thou hast taught¹⁴ me from my youth: and hitherto have I declared⁵⁵ thy wondrous works.¹²

Now also when I am old and grayheaded, O God, forsake⁴ me not; until I have shewed⁵⁵ thy strength unto [this] generation, [and] thy power to every one [that] is to come.⁴

Thy righteousness also, O God, [is] very high, who hast done¹ great things: O God, who [is] like unto thee!

[Thou], which hast shewed⁵² me great and sore troubles, shalt quicken¹⁷ me again,⁴ and shalt bring me up⁵⁵ again⁴ from the depths of the earth.

Thou shalt increase⁵⁵ my greatness, and comfort¹⁷ me on every side.¹¹

I will also praise⁵⁵ thee with the psaltery, [even] thy truth, O my God: unto thee will I sing¹⁷ with the harp, O thou Holy One of Israel.

My lips shall greatly rejoice¹⁷ when I sing¹⁷ unto thee; and my soul, which thou hast redeemed.¹

My tongue also shall talk⁴ of thy righteousness all the day long: for they are confounded,¹ for they are brought unto shame,¹ that seek¹⁸ my hurt.
