Chapter 71

1

In thee, O LORD, do I put my trust:1 let me never 5769 be put to confusion.4

2

Deliver55 me in thy righteousness, and cause me to escape:17 incline54 thine ear unto me, and save54 me.

3

Be thou my strong habitation, whereunto I may continually resort:2 thou hast given commandment14 to save53 me; for thou [art] my rock and my fortress.

4

Deliver16 me, O my God, out of the hand of the wicked, out of the hand of the unrighteous18 and cruel man.6

5

For thou [art] my hope, O Lord GOD: [thou art] my trust from my youth.

6

By thee have I been holden up8 from the womb: thou art he that took6 me out of my mother's bowels: my praise [shall be] continually of thee.

7

I am as a wonder unto many; but thou [art] my strong refuge.

8

Let my mouth be filled11 [with] thy praise [and with] thy honour all the day.

9

Cast me not off55 in the time of old age; forsake4 me not when my strength faileth.2

10

For mine enemies6 speak1 against me; and they that lay wait6 for my soul take counsel8 together,

11

Saying,2 God hath forsaken1 him: persecute3 and take3 him; for [there is] none to deliver56 [him].

12

O God, be not far4 from me: O my God, make haste3 2439 for my help.

13

Let them be confounded4 [and] consumed4 that are adversaries6 to my soul; let them be covered4 [with] reproach and dishonour that seek18 my hurt.

14

But I will hope17 continually, and will yet praise thee more and more.52

15

My mouth shall shew forth17 thy righteousness [and] thy salvation all the day; for I know1 not the numbers [thereof].

16

I will go in4 the strength of the Lord GOD: I will make mention55 of thy righteousness, [even] of thine only.

17

O God, thou hast taught14 me from my youth: and hitherto have I declared55 thy wondrous works.12

18

Now also when I am old and grayheaded, O God, forsake4 me not; until I have shewed55 thy strength unto [this] generation, [and] thy power to every one [that] is to come.4

19

Thy righteousness also, O God, [is] very high, who hast done1 great things: O God, who [is] like unto thee!

20

[Thou], which hast shewed52 me great and sore troubles, shalt quicken17 me again,4 and shalt bring me up55 again4 from the depths of the earth.

21

Thou shalt increase55 my greatness, and comfort17 me on every side.11

22

I will also praise55 thee with the psaltery, [even] thy truth, O my God: unto thee will I sing17 with the harp, O thou Holy One of Israel.

23

My lips shall greatly rejoice17 when I sing17 unto thee; and my soul, which thou hast redeemed.1

24

My tongue also shall talk4 of thy righteousness all the day long: for they are confounded,1 for they are brought unto shame,1 that seek18 my hurt.
