The Book of the Prophet Isaiah

Chapter 54

1

Sing,3 O barren, thou [that] didst not bear;1 break forth3 into singing, and cry aloud,16 thou [that] didst not travail with child:1 for more [are] the children of the desolate6 than the children of the married wife,7 saith1 the LORD.

2

Enlarge54 the place of thy tent, and let them stretch forth55 the curtains of thine habitations: spare4 not, lengthen54 thy cords, and strengthen16 thy stakes;

3

For thou shalt break forth4 on the right hand and on the left; and thy seed shall inherit4 the Gentiles, and make the desolate12 cities to be inhabited.55

4

Fear4 not; for thou shalt not be ashamed:4 neither be thou confounded;11 for thou shalt not be put to shame:55 for thou shalt forget4 the shame of thy youth, and shalt not remember4 the reproach of thy widowhood any more.

5

For thy Maker6 [is] thine husband;6 the LORD of hosts [is] his name; and thy Redeemer6 the Holy One of Israel; The God of the whole earth shall he be called.11

6

For the LORD hath called1 thee as a woman forsaken7 and grieved7 in spirit, and a wife of youth, when thou wast refused,11 saith1 thy God.

7

For a small moment have I forsaken1 thee; but with great mercies will I gather17 thee.

8

In a little wrath I hid52 my face from thee for a moment; but with everlasting kindness will I have mercy14 on thee, saith1 the LORD thy Redeemer.6

9

For this [is as] the waters of Noah unto me: for [as] I have sworn8 that the waters of Noah should no more go over2 the earth; so have I sworn8 that I would not be wroth2 with thee, nor rebuke2 thee.

10

For the mountains shall depart,4 and the hills be removed;4 but my kindness shall not depart4 from thee, neither shall the covenant of my peace be removed,4 saith1 the LORD that hath mercy18 on thee.

11

O thou afflicted, tossed with tempest,6 [and] not comforted,30 behold, I will lay56 thy stones with fair colours, and lay thy foundations1 with sapphires.

12

And I will make1 thy windows of agates, and thy gates of carbuncles, 688 and all thy borders of pleasant stones.

13

And all thy children [shall be] taught of the LORD; and great [shall be] the peace of thy children.

14

In righteousness shalt thou be established:113 thou shalt be far3 from oppression; for thou shalt not fear:4 and from terror; for it shall not come near4 thee.

15

Behold, they shall surely2 gather together,4 [but] not by me: whosoever shall gather together1 against thee shall fall4 for thy sake.

16

Behold, I have created1 the smith that bloweth6 the coals in the fire, and that bringeth forth56 an instrument for his work; and I have created1 the waster56 to destroy.15

17

No weapon that is formed93 against thee shall prosper;4 and every tongue [that] shall rise4 against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn.55 This [is] the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their righteousness [is] of me, saith7 the LORD.
