The Book of the Prophet Isaiah

Chapter 63

1

Who [is] this that cometh6 from Edom, with dyed7 garments from Bozrah? this [that is] glorious7 in his apparel, travelling6 in the greatness of his strength? I that speak18 in righteousness, mighty to save.53

2

Wherefore [art thou] red in thine apparel, and thy garments like him that treadeth6 in the winefat?

3

I have trodden1 the winepress alone; and of the people [there was] none with me: for I will tread4 them in mine anger, and trample4 them in my fury; and their blood shall be sprinkled4 upon my garments, and I will stain52 all my raiment.

4

For the day of vengeance [is] in mine heart, and the year of my redeemed7 is come.1

5

And I looked,55 and [there was] none to help;6 and I wondered113 that [there was] none to uphold:6 therefore mine own arm brought salvation55 unto me; and my fury, it upheld1 me.

6

And I will tread down4 the people in mine anger, and make them drunk17 in my fury, and I will bring down55 their strength to the earth.

7

I will mention55 the lovingkindnesses of the LORD, [and] the praises of the LORD, according to all that the LORD hath bestowed1 on us, and the great goodness toward the house of Israel, which he hath bestowed1 on them according to his mercies, and according to the multitude of his lovingkindnesses.

8

For he said,4 Surely they [are] my people, children [that] will not lie:17 so he was their Saviour.56

9

In all their affliction he was afflicted, and the angel of his presence saved52 them: in his love and in his pity he redeemed1 them; and he bare17 them, and carried17 them all the days of old.

10

But they rebelled,1 and vexed14 his holy Spirit: therefore he was turned11 to be their enemy,6 [and] he fought8 against them.

11

Then he remembered4 the days of old, Moses, [and] his people, [saying], Where [is] he that brought them up56 out of the sea with the shepherd6 of his flock? where [is] he that put6 his holy Spirit within him?

12

That led56 [them] by the right hand of Moses with his glorious arm, dividing6 the water before them, to make2 himself an everlasting name?

13

That led56 them through the deep, as an horse in the wilderness, [that] they should not stumble?11

14

As a beast goeth down4 into the valley, the Spirit of the LORD caused him to rest:55 so didst thou lead14 thy people, to make2 thyself a glorious name.

15

Look54 down from heaven, and behold3 from the habitation of thy holiness and of thy glory: where [is] thy zeal and thy strength, the sounding of thy bowels and of thy mercies toward me? are they restrained?98

16

Doubtless thou [art] our father, though Abraham be ignorant 3045 1 of us, and Israel acknowledge55 us not: thou, O LORD, [art] our father, our redeemer;6 thy name [is] from everlasting.

17

O LORD, why hast thou made us to err55 from thy ways, [and] hardened55 our heart from thy fear? Return3 for thy servants' sake, the tribes of thine inheritance.

18

The people of thy holiness have possessed1 [it] but a little while: our adversaries have trodden down31 thy sanctuary.

19

We are [thine]: thou never 3808 barest rule1 over them; they were not called8 by thy name.
