Chapter 7

In the first year of Belshazzar king of Babylon Daniel had⁵⁷ a dream and visions of his head upon his bed: then he wrote⁵⁷ the dream, [and] told⁵⁷ the sum of the matters.

Daniel spake⁶¹ and said,⁶¹ I saw^{62 1934 57} in my vision by night, and, behold, the four winds of the heaven strove⁸⁹ upon the great sea.

And four great beasts came up⁶² from the sea, diverse⁶¹ one from another.

The first [was] like a lion, and had eagle's wings: I beheld^{57 2370 62} till the wings thereof were plucked,⁶⁵ and it was lifted up⁶⁵ from the earth, and made stand⁹⁰ upon the feet as a man, and a man's heart was given⁶⁴ to it.

And behold another beast, a second, like⁶² to a bear, and it raised up⁸⁵ itself on one side, and [it had] three ribs in the mouth of it between the teeth of it: and they said⁶¹ thus unto it, Arise,⁵⁹ devour⁵⁹ much flesh.

After this I beheld,^{57 2370 62} and lo another, like a leopard, which had upon the back of it four wings of a fowl; the beast had also four heads; and dominion was given⁶⁴ to it.

After this I saw^{57 2370 62} in the night visions, and behold a fourth beast, dreadful⁶⁴ and terrible, and strong exceedingly; and it had great iron teeth: it devoured⁶¹ and brake in pieces,⁸⁹ and stamped⁶² the residue with the feet of it: and it [was] diverse⁷¹ from all the beasts that [were] before it; and it had ten horns.

I considered^{57 7920 76} the horns, and, behold, there came up⁵⁷ among them another little horn, before ⁴⁴⁸¹ whom there were three of the first horns plucked up by the roots:⁷⁹ and, behold, in this horn [were] eyes like the eyes of man, and a mouth speaking⁷¹ great things.

I beheld^{57 2370 62} till the thrones were cast down,⁶³ and the Ancient of days did sit,⁵⁷ whose garment [was] white as snow, and the hair of his head like the pure wool: his throne [was like] the fiery flame, [and] his wheels [as] burning⁶² fire.

A fiery stream issued⁷¹ and came forth⁶¹ from before him: thousand thousands ministered⁷⁰ unto him, and ten thousand times ten thousand stood⁶⁰ before him: the judgment was set,⁵⁷ and the books were opened.⁶⁵

I beheld^{57 2370 62} then because of the voice of the great words which the horn spake:⁷¹ I beheld^{57 2370 62} [even] till the beast was slain,⁶³ and his body destroyed,⁹⁰ and given⁶⁴ to the burning flame.

As concerning the rest of the beasts, they had their dominion taken away:⁸⁵ yet their lives were⁶⁴ prolonged for a season and time.

I saw^{57 2370 62} in the night visions, and, behold, [one] like the Son of man came^{57 858 61} with the clouds of heaven, and came⁵⁷ to the Ancient of days, and they brought him near⁸⁵ before him.

And there was given⁶⁴ him dominion, and glory, and a kingdom, that all people, nations, and languages, should serve⁶⁰ him: his dominion [is] an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away,⁶⁰ and his kingdom [that] which shall not be destroyed.⁷⁵

I Daniel was grieved⁸¹ in my spirit in the midst of [my] body, and the visions of my head troubled²⁹ me.

I came near⁵⁷ unto one of them that stood by,⁶¹ and asked⁶⁰ him the truth of all this. So he told⁵⁷ me, and made me know⁸⁸ the interpretation of the things.

These great beasts, which are four, [are] four kings, [which] shall arise⁶⁰ out of the earth.

But the saints of the most High shall take⁷⁰ the kingdom, and possess⁸⁸ the kingdom for ever, even for ever and ever.

Then I would⁵⁷ know the truth⁶⁸ of the fourth beast, which was⁵⁷ diverse⁶¹ from all the others, exceeding dreadful,⁶⁴ whose teeth [were of] iron, and his nails [of] brass; [which] devoured,⁶¹ brake in pieces,⁸⁹ and stamped⁶² the residue with his feet;

And of the ten horns that [were] in his head, and [of] the other which came up,⁵⁷ and before ⁶⁹²⁵ whom three fell;⁵⁷ even [of] that horn that had eyes, and a mouth that spake⁷¹ very great things, whose look [was] more stout than his fellows.

I beheld,^{57 2370 62} and the same horn made⁶² war with the saints, and prevailed⁶¹ against them;

Until the Ancient of days came,^{57 1768} and judgment was given⁶⁴ to the saints of the most High; and the time came⁵⁷ that the saints possessed⁸⁵ the kingdom.

Thus he said,⁵⁷ The fourth beast shall be⁶⁰ the fourth kingdom upon earth, which shall be diverse⁶⁰ from all kingdoms, and shall devour⁶⁰ the whole earth, and shall tread it down,⁶⁰ and break it in pieces.⁸⁸

And the ten horns out of this kingdom [are] ten kings [that] shall arise:⁶⁰ and another shall rise⁶⁰ after them; and he shall be diverse⁶⁰ from the first, and he shall subdue⁸⁸ three kings.

And he shall speak⁷⁰ [great] words against the most High, and shall wear out⁷⁰ the saints of the most High, and think⁶⁰ to change⁸⁶ times and laws: and they shall be given⁷⁹ into his hand until a time and times and the dividing of time.

But the judgment shall sit,⁵⁷ and they shall take away⁸⁸ his dominion, to consume⁸⁶ and to destroy⁸⁶ [it] unto the end.

And the kingdom and dominion, and the greatness of the kingdom under the whole heaven, shall be given⁶⁴ to the people of the saints of the most High, whose kingdom [is] an everlasting kingdom, and all dominions shall serve⁶⁰ and obey⁷⁵ him.

Hitherto ³⁵⁴² [is] the end of the matter. As for me Daniel, my cogitations much troubled²⁹ me, and my countenance changed⁷⁵ in me: but I kept⁵⁷ the matter in my heart.
