The Book of Daniel

Chapter 10

1

In the third year of Cyrus king of Persia a thing was revealed8 unto Daniel, whose name was called8 Belteshazzar; and the thing [was] true, but the time appointed [was] long: and he understood1 the thing, and had understanding of the vision.

2

In those days I Daniel was mourning102 three full weeks. 3117

3

I ate1 no pleasant bread, neither came1 flesh nor wine in my mouth, neither did I anoint1 myself at all,2 till three whole weeks 3117 were fulfilled.2

4

And in the four and twentieth day of the first month, as I was by the side of the great river, which [is] Hiddekel;

5

Then I lifted up4 mine eyes, and looked,4 and behold a certain man clothed7 in linen, whose loins [were] girded7 with fine gold of Uphaz:

6

His body also [was] like the beryl, and his face as the appearance of lightning, and his eyes as lamps of fire, and his arms and his feet like in colour to polished brass, and the voice of his words like the voice of a multitude.

7

And I Daniel alone saw1 the vision: for the men that were with me saw1 not the vision; but a great quaking fell1 upon them, so that they fled4 to hide9 themselves.

8

Therefore I was left8 alone, and saw4 this great vision, and there remained8 no strength in me: for my comeliness was turned8 in me into corruption, and I retained1 no strength.

9

Yet heard4 I the voice of his words: and when I heard2 the voice of his words, then was I in a deep sleep12 on my face, and my face toward the ground.

10

And, behold, an hand touched1 me, which set55 me upon my knees and [upon] the palms of my hands.

11

And he said4 unto me, O Daniel, a man greatly beloved, understand54 the words that I speak6 unto thee, and stand3 upright: for unto thee am I now sent.27 And when he had spoken15 this word unto me, I stood1 trembling.56

12

Then said4 he unto me, Fear4 not, Daniel: for from the first day that thou didst set1 thine heart to understand,53 and to chasten99 thyself before thy God, thy words were heard,8 and I am come1 for thy words.

13

But the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood6 me one and twenty days: but, lo, Michael, one of the chief princes, came1 to help2 me; and I remained8 there with the kings of Persia.

14

Now I am come1 to make thee understand53 what shall befall4 thy people in the latter days: for yet the vision [is] for [many] days.

15

And when he had spoken15 such words unto me, I set1 my face toward the ground, and I became dumb.8

16

And, behold, [one] like the similitude of the sons of men touched6 my lips: then I opened4 my mouth, and spake,17 and said4 unto him that stood6 before me, O my lord, by the vision my sorrows are turned8 upon me, and I have retained1 no strength.

17

For how can4 the servant of this my lord talk15 with this my lord? for as for me, straightway there remained4 no strength in me, neither is there breath left8 in me.

18

Then there came again55 and touched4 me [one] like the appearance of a man, and he strengthened17 me,

19

And said,4 O man greatly beloved, fear4 not: peace [be] unto thee, be strong,3 yea, be strong.3 And when he had spoken15 unto me, I was strengthened,98 and said,4 Let my lord speak;17 for thou hast strengthened14 me.

20

Then said4 he, Knowest1 thou wherefore I come1 unto thee? and now will I return4 to fight9 with the prince of Persia: and when I am gone forth,6 lo, the prince of Grecia shall come.1

21

But I will shew55 thee that which is noted7 in the scripture of truth: and [there is] none that holdeth102 with me in these things, but Michael your prince.
