The Book of Daniel

Chapter 11

1

Also I in the first year of Darius the Mede, [even] I, stood to confirm56 and to strengthen him.

2

And now will I shew55 thee the truth. Behold, there shall stand up6 yet three kings in Persia; and the fourth shall be far 1419 richer55 than [they] all: and by his strength through his riches he shall stir up55 all against the realm of Grecia.

3

And a mighty king shall stand up,1 that shall rule1 with great dominion, and do1 according to his will.

4

And when he shall stand up,2 his kingdom shall be broken,11 and shall be divided11 toward the four winds of heaven; and not to his posterity, nor according to his dominion which he ruled:1 for his kingdom shall be plucked up,11 even for others beside those.

5

And the king of the south shall be strong,4 and [one] of his princes; and he shall be strong4 above him, and have dominion;1 his dominion [shall be] a great dominion.

6

And in the end of years they shall join themselves together;101 for the king's daughter of the south shall come4 to the king of the north to make2 an agreement: but she shall not retain4 the power of the arm; neither shall he stand,4 nor his arm: but she shall be given up,11 and they that brought56 her, and he that begat6 her, and he that strengthened56 her in [these] times.

7

But out of a branch of her roots shall [one] stand up1 in his estate, which shall come4 with an army, and shall enter4 into the fortress of the king of the north, and shall deal1 against them, and shall prevail:52

8

And shall also carry55 captives into Egypt their gods, with their princes, [and] with their precious vessels of silver and of gold; and he shall continue4 [more] years than the king of the north.

9

So the king of the south shall come1 into [his] kingdom, and shall return1 into his own land.

10

But his sons shall be stirred up,101 and shall assemble1 a multitude of great forces: and [one] shall certainly2 come,1 and overflow,1 and pass through:1 then shall he return,4 and be stirred up,101 [even] to his fortress.

11

And the king of the south shall be moved with choler,118 and shall come forth1 and fight8 with him, [even] with the king of the north: and he shall set forth52 a great multitude; but the multitude shall be given8 into his hand.

12

[And] when he hath taken away8 the multitude, his heart shall be lifted up;1 7311 4 and he shall cast down52 [many] ten thousands: but he shall not be strengthened4 [by it].

13

For the king of the north shall return,1 and shall set forth52 a multitude greater than the former, and shall certainly2 come4 after certain years with a great army and with much riches.

14

And in those times there shall many stand up4 against the king of the south: also the robbers 6530 of thy people shall exalt101 themselves to establish53 the vision; but they shall fall.8

15

So the king of the north shall come,4 and cast up4 a mount, and take1 the most fenced cities: and the arms of the south shall not withstand,4 neither his chosen people, neither [shall there be any] strength to withstand.2

16

But he that cometh6 against him shall do4 according to his own will, and none shall stand6 before him: and he shall stand4 in the glorious land, which by his hand shall be consumed.

17

He shall also set4 his face to enter2 with the strength of his whole kingdom, and upright ones with him; thus shall he do:1 and he shall give4 him the daughter of women, corrupting53 her: but she shall not stand4 [on his side], neither be for him.

18

After this shall he turn4 7725 55 his face unto the isles, and shall take1 many: but a prince for his own behalf shall cause the reproach offered by him to cease;52 without his own reproach he shall cause [it] to turn55 upon him.

19

Then he shall turn55 his face toward the fort of his own land: but he shall stumble8 and fall,1 and not be found.11

20

Then shall stand up1 in his estate a raiser56 of taxes6 [in] the glory of the kingdom: but within few days he shall be destroyed,11 neither in anger, nor in battle.

21

And in his estate shall stand up1 a vile person,12 to whom they shall not give1 the honour of the kingdom: but he shall come1 in peaceably, and obtain52 the kingdom by flatteries.

22

And with the arms of a flood shall they be overflown11 from before him, and shall be broken;11 yea, also the prince of the covenant.

23

And after the league99 [made] with him he shall work4 deceitfully: for he shall come up,1 and shall become strong1 with a small people.

24

He shall enter4 peaceably even upon the fattest places of the province; and he shall do1 [that] which his fathers have not done,1 nor his fathers' fathers; he shall scatter4 among them the prey, and spoil, and riches: [yea], and he shall forecast17 his devices against the strong holds, even for a time.

25

And he shall stir up55 his power and his courage against the king of the south with a great army; and the king of the south shall be stirred up101 to battle with a very great and mighty army; but he shall not stand:4 for they shall forecast4 devices against him.

26

Yea, they that feed6 of the portion of his meat shall destroy4 him, and his army shall overflow:4 and many shall fall down1 slain.

27

And both these kings' hearts [shall be] to do mischief,56 7451 and they shall speak17 lies at one table; but it shall not prosper:4 for yet the end [shall be] at the time appointed.

28

Then shall he return1 into his land with great riches; and his heart [shall be] against the holy covenant; and he shall do1 [exploits], and return4 to his own land.

29

At the time appointed he shall return,4 and come1 toward the south; but it shall not be as the former, or as the latter.

30

For the ships of Chittim shall come1 against him: therefore he shall be grieved,8 and return,1 and have indignation1 against the holy covenant: so shall he do;1 he shall even return,1 and have intelligence4 with them that forsake6 the holy covenant.

31

And arms shall stand4 on his part, and they shall pollute14 the sanctuary of strength, and shall take away52 the daily [sacrifice], and they shall place1 the abomination that maketh desolate.35

32

And such as do wickedly56 against the covenant shall he corrupt55 by flatteries: but the people that do know6 their God shall be strong,55 and do1 [exploits].

33

And they that understand56 among the people shall instruct4 many: yet they shall fall8 by the sword, and by flame, by captivity, and by spoil, [many] days.

34

Now when they shall fall,9 they shall be holpen11 with a little help: but many shall cleave8 to them with flatteries.

35

And [some] of them of understanding56 shall fall,11 to try2 them, and to purge,15 and to make [them] white,53 [even] to the time of the end: because [it is] yet for a time appointed.

36

And the king shall do1 according to his will; and he shall exalt113 himself, and magnify101 himself above every god, and shall speak17 marvellous things12 against the God of gods, and shall prosper52 till the indignation be accomplished:1 for that that is determined12 shall be done.8

37

Neither shall he regard4 the God of his fathers, nor the desire of women, nor regard4 any god: for he shall magnify101 himself above all.

38

But in his estate shall he honour17 the God of forces: and a god whom his fathers knew1 not shall he honour17 with gold, and silver, and with precious stones, and pleasant things.

39

Thus shall he do1 in the most strong holds with a strange god, whom he shall acknowledge55 5234 52 [and] increase55 with glory: and he shall cause them to rule52 over many, and shall divide17 the land for gain.

40

And at the time of the end shall the king of the south push101 at him: and the king of the north shall come against him like a whirlwind,101 with chariots, and with horsemen, and with many ships; and he shall enter1 into the countries, and shall overflow1 and pass over.1

41

He shall enter1 also into the glorious land, and many [countries] shall be overthrown:11 but these shall escape11 out of his hand, [even] Edom, and Moab, and the chief of the children of Ammon.

42

He shall stretch forth4 his hand also upon the countries: and the land of Egypt shall not escape.

43

But he shall have power1 over the treasures of gold and of silver, and over all the precious things of Egypt: and the Libyans and the Ethiopians [shall be] at his steps.

44

But tidings out of the east and out of the north shall trouble17 him: therefore he shall go forth1 with great fury to destroy,53 and utterly to make away53 many.

45

And he shall plant4 the tabernacles of his palace between the seas in the glorious holy mountain; yet he shall come1 to his end, and none shall help6 him.
