The Book of Hosea

Chapter 12

1

Ephraim feedeth6 on wind, and followeth6 after the east wind: he daily increaseth55 lies and desolation; and they do make4 a covenant with the Assyrians, and oil is carried93 into Egypt.

2

The LORD hath also a controversy with Judah, and will punish2 Jacob according to his ways; according to his doings will he recompense55 him.

3

He took his brother by the heel1 in the womb, and by his strength he had power1 with God:

4

Yea, he had power4 over the angel, and prevailed:4 he wept,1 and made supplication101 unto him: he found4 him [in] Bethel, and there he spake17 with us;

5

Even the LORD God of hosts; the LORD [is] his memorial.

6

Therefore turn4 thou to thy God: keep3 mercy and judgment, and wait16 on thy God continually.

7

[He is] a merchant, the balances of deceit [are] in his hand: he loveth1 to oppress.2

8

And Ephraim said,4 Yet I am become rich,1 I have found1 me out substance: [in] all my labours they shall find4 none iniquity in me that [were] sin.

9

And I [that am] the LORD thy God from the land of Egypt will yet make thee to dwell55 in tabernacles, as in the days of the solemn feast.

10

I have also spoken14 by the prophets, and I have multiplied52 visions, and used similitudes,17 by the ministry of the prophets.

11

[Is there] iniquity [in] Gilead? surely they are vanity: they sacrifice14 bullocks in Gilgal; yea, their altars [are] as heaps in the furrows of the fields.

12

And Jacob fled4 into the country of Syria, and Israel served4 for a wife, and for a wife he kept1 [sheep].

13

And by a prophet the LORD brought52 Israel out of Egypt, and by a prophet was he preserved.8

14

Ephraim provoked [him] to anger52 most bitterly: therefore shall he leave4 his blood upon him, and his reproach shall his Lord return55 unto him.
