The Book of Jonah

Chapter 2

1

Then Jonah prayed101 unto the LORD his God out of the fish's belly,

2

And said,4 I cried1 by reason of mine affliction unto the LORD, and he heard4 me; out of the belly of hell cried14 I, [and] thou heardest1 my voice.

3

For thou hadst cast55 me into the deep, in the midst of the seas; and the floods compassed me about:25 all thy billows and thy waves passed1 over me.

4

Then I said,1 I am cast out8 of thy sight; yet I will look53 again55 toward thy holy temple.

5

The waters compassed1 me about, [even] to the soul: the depth closed me round about,25 the weeds were wrapped about7 my head.

6

I went down1 to the bottoms of the mountains; the earth with her bars [was] about me for ever: yet hast thou brought up55 my life from corruption, O LORD my God.

7

When my soul fainted99 within me I remembered1 the LORD: and my prayer came in4 unto thee, into thine holy temple.

8

They that observe18 lying vanities forsake4 their own mercy.

9

But I will sacrifice4 unto thee with the voice of thanksgiving; I will pay17 [that] that I have vowed.1 Salvation [is] of the LORD.

10

And the LORD spake4 unto the fish, and it vomited out55 Jonah upon the dry [land].
