Chapter 56

1

To the chief Musician18 upon Jonathelemrechokim, 3123 482 7350 Michtam of David, when the Philistines took2 him in Gath.
Be merciful3 unto me, O God: for man would swallow me up;1 he fighting6 daily oppresseth4 me.

2

Mine enemies6 would daily swallow [me] up:1 for [they be] many that fight6 against me, O thou most High.

3

What time I am afraid,4 I will trust4 in thee.

4

In God I will praise17 his word, in God I have put my trust;1 I will not fear4 what flesh can do4 unto me.

5

Every day they wrest17 my words: all their thoughts [are] against me for evil.

6

They gather4 themselves together, they hide4 6845 55 themselves, they mark4 my steps, when they wait14 for my soul.

7

Shall they escape by iniquity? in [thine] anger cast down54 the people, O God.

8

Thou tellest1 my wanderings: put3 thou my tears into thy bottle: [are they] not in thy book?

9

When I cry4 [unto thee], then shall mine enemies6 turn4 back: this I know;1 for God [is] for me.

10

In God will I praise17 [his] word: in the LORD will I praise17 [his] word.

11

In God have I put my trust:1 I will not be afraid4 what man can do4 unto me.

12

Thy vows [are] upon me, O God: I will render17 praises unto thee.

13

For thou hast delivered52 my soul from death: [wilt] not [thou deliver] my feet from falling, that I may walk99 before God in the light of the living?
