Genesis 1 | King James Bible |
Chapter 2 | |
| Thus the heavens and the earth were finished,29 and all the host of them. |
| And on the seventh day God ended17 his work which he had made;1 and he rested4 on the seventh day from all his work which he had made.1 |
| And God blessed17 the seventh day, and sanctified17 it: because that in it he had rested1 from all his work which God created1 and made.2 |
| These [are] the generations of the heavens and of the earth when they were created,9 in the day that the LORD God made2 the earth and the heavens, |
| And every plant of the field before it was in the earth, and every herb of the field before it grew:4 for the LORD God had not caused it to rain52 upon the earth, and [there was] not a man to till2 the ground. |
| But there went up4 a mist from the earth, and watered52 the whole face of the ground. |
| And the LORD God formed4 man [of] the dust of the ground, and breathed4 into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul. |
| And the LORD God planted4 a garden eastward in Eden; and there he put4 the man whom he had formed.1 |
| And out of the ground made the LORD God to grow55 every tree that is pleasant12 to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil. |
| And a river went out6 of Eden to water53 the garden; and from thence it was parted,11 and became into four heads. |
| The name of the first [is] Pison: that [is] it which compasseth6 the whole land of Havilah, where [there is] gold; |
| And the gold of that land [is] good: there [is] bdellium and the onyx stone. |
| And the name of the second river [is] Gihon: the same [is] it that compasseth6 the whole land of Ethiopia. |
| And the name of the third river [is] Hiddekel: that [is] it which goeth6 toward the east of Assyria. And the fourth river [is] Euphrates. |
| And the LORD God took4 the man, and put55 him into the garden of Eden to dress2 it and to keep2 it. |
| And the LORD God commanded17 the man, saying,2 Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely2 eat:4 |
| But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat4 of it: for in the day that thou eatest2 thereof thou shalt surely2 die.4 |
| And the LORD God said,4 [It is] not good that the man should be2 alone; I will make4 him an help meet for him. |
| And out of the ground the LORD God formed4 every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought55 [them] unto Adam to see2 what he would call4 them: and whatsoever Adam called4 every living creature, that [was] the name thereof. |
| And Adam gave4 names to all cattle, and to the fowl of the air, and to every beast of the field; but for Adam there was not found1 an help meet for him. |
| And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall55 upon Adam, and he slept:4 and he took4 one of his ribs, and closed up4 the flesh instead thereof; |
| And the rib, which the LORD God had taken1 from man, made4 he a woman, and brought55 her unto the man. |
| And Adam said,4 This [is] now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called11 Woman, because she was taken27 out of Man. |
| Therefore shall a man leave4 his father and his mother, and shall cleave1 unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh. |
| And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.113 |
