Genesis 29 | King James Bible |
Chapter 30 | |
| And when Rachel saw4 that she bare1 Jacob no children, Rachel envied17 her sister; and said4 unto Jacob, Give3 me children, or else I die.5 |
| And Jacob's anger was kindled4 against Rachel: and he said,4 [Am] I in God's stead, who hath withheld1 from thee the fruit of the womb? |
| And she said,4 Behold my maid Bilhah, go in3 unto her; and she shall bear4 upon my knees, that I may also have children11 by her. |
| And she gave4 him Bilhah her handmaid to wife: and Jacob went in4 unto her. |
| |
| And Rachel said,4 God hath judged1 me, and hath also heard1 my voice, and hath given4 me a son: therefore called1 she his name Dan. |
| And Bilhah Rachel's maid conceived4 again, and bare4 Jacob a second son. |
| And Rachel said,4 With great wrestlings have I wrestled8 with my sister, and I have prevailed:1 and she called4 his name Naphtali. |
| When Leah saw4 that she had left1 bearing,2 she took4 Zilpah her maid, and gave4 her Jacob to wife. |
| |
| And Leah said,4 A troop cometh:1 and she called4 his name Gad. |
| |
| And Leah said,4 Happy am I, for the daughters will call me blessed:14 and she called4 his name Asher. |
| And Reuben went in4 the days of wheat harvest, and found4 mandrakes in the field, and brought55 them unto his mother Leah. Then Rachel said4 to Leah, Give3 me, I pray thee, of thy son's mandrakes. |
| And she said4 unto her, [Is it] a small matter that thou hast taken2 my husband? and wouldest thou take away2 my son's mandrakes also? And Rachel said,4 Therefore he shall lie4 with thee to night for thy son's mandrakes. |
| And Jacob came4 out of the field in the evening, and Leah went out4 to meet2 him, and said,4 Thou must come in4 unto me; for surely2 I have hired1 thee with my son's mandrakes. And he lay4 with her that night. |
| And God hearkened4 unto Leah, and she conceived,4 and bare4 Jacob the fifth son. |
| And Leah said,4 God hath given1 me my hire, because I have given1 my maiden to my husband: and she called4 his name Issachar. |
| |
| And Leah said,4 God hath endued1 me [with] a good dowry; now will my husband dwell4 with me, because I have born1 him six sons: and she called4 his name Zebulun. |
| And afterwards she bare1 a daughter, and called4 her name Dinah. |
| And God remembered4 Rachel, and God hearkened4 to her, and opened4 her womb. |
| And she conceived,4 and bare4 a son; and said,4 God hath taken away1 my reproach: |
| And she called4 his name Joseph; and said,2 The LORD shall add55 to me another son. |
| And it came to pass, when Rachel had born1 Joseph, that Jacob said4 unto Laban, Send me away,16 that I may go4 unto mine own place, and to my country. |
| Give3 [me] my wives and my children, for whom I have served1 thee, and let me go:4 for thou knowest1 my service which I have done1 thee. |
| And Laban said4 unto him, I pray thee, if I have found1 favour in thine eyes, [tarry: for] I have learned by experience14 that the LORD hath blessed17 me for thy sake. |
| |
| And he said4 unto him, Thou knowest1 how I have served1 thee, and how thy cattle was with me. |
| For [it was] little which thou hadst before I [came], and it is [now] increased4 unto a multitude; and the LORD hath blessed17 thee since my coming: and now when shall I provide4 for mine own house also? |
| And he said,4 What shall I give4 thee? And Jacob said,4 Thou shalt not give4 me any thing: if thou wilt do4 this thing for me, I will again4 feed4 [and] keep4 thy flock: |
| I will pass through4 all thy flock to day, removing53 from thence all the speckled and spotted7 cattle, and all the brown cattle among the sheep, and the spotted7 and speckled among the goats: and [of such] shall be my hire. |
| So shall my righteousness answer1 for me in time to come, when it shall come4 for my hire before thy face: every one that [is] not speckled and spotted7 among the goats, and brown among the sheep, that shall be counted stolen7 with me. |
| And Laban said,4 Behold, I would it might be according to thy word. |
| And he removed55 that day the he goats that were ringstraked and spotted,7 and all the she goats that were speckled and spotted,7 [and] every one that had [some] white in it, and all the brown among the sheep, and gave4 [them] into the hand of his sons. |
| And he set4 three days' journey betwixt himself and Jacob: and Jacob fed6 the rest12 of Laban's flocks. |
| And Jacob took4 him rods of green poplar, and of the hazel and chesnut tree; and pilled17 white strakes in them, and made the white appear which [was] in the rods. |
| And he set55 the rods which he had pilled14 before the flocks in the gutters in the watering troughs when the flocks came4 to drink,2 that they should conceive4 when they came2 to drink.2 |
| And the flocks conceived4 before the rods, and brought forth4 cattle ringstraked, speckled, and spotted.7 |
| And Jacob did separate52 the lambs, and set4 the faces of the flocks toward the ringstraked, and all the brown in the flock of Laban; and he put4 his own flocks by themselves, and put1 them not unto Laban's cattle. |
| And it came to pass, whensoever the stronger30 cattle did conceive,15 that Jacob laid1 the rods before the eyes of the cattle in the gutters, that they might conceive15 among the rods. |
| But when the cattle were feeble,53 he put [them] not in:4 so the feebler7 were Laban's, and the stronger7 Jacob's. |
| And the man increased4 exceedingly, 3966 and had much cattle, and maidservants, and menservants, and camels, and asses. |
