Chapter 3

And he shewed⁵⁵ me Joshua the high priest standing⁶ before the angel of the LORD, and Satan standing⁶ at his right hand to resist² him.

And the LORD said⁴ unto Satan, The LORD rebuke⁴ thee, O Satan; even the LORD that hath chosen⁶ Jerusalem rebuke⁴ thee: [is] not this a brand plucked⁹⁴ out of the fire?

Now Joshua was clothed⁷ with filthy garments, and stood⁶ before the angel.

And he answered⁴ and spake⁴ unto those that stood⁶ before him, saying,² Take away⁵⁴ the filthy garments from him. And unto him he said,⁴ Behold,³ I have caused thine iniquity to pass⁵² from thee, and I will clothe⁵³ thee with change of raiment.

And I said,⁴ Let them set⁴ a fair mitre upon his head. So they set⁴ a fair mitre upon his head, and clothed⁵⁵ him with garments. And the angel of the LORD stood by.⁶

And the angel of the LORD protested⁵⁵ unto Joshua, saying,²

Thus saith¹ the LORD of hosts; If thou wilt walk⁴ in my ways, and if thou wilt keep⁴ my charge, then thou shalt also judge⁴ my house, and shalt also keep⁴ my courts, and I will give¹ thee places to walk^{56 1980} among these that stand by.⁶

Hear³ now, O Joshua the high priest, thou, and thy fellows that sit⁶ before thee: for they [are] men wondered at: for, behold, I will bring forth⁵⁶ my servant the BRANCH.

For behold the stone that I have laid¹ before Joshua; upon one stone [shall be] seven eyes: behold, I will engrave¹⁸ the graving thereof, saith⁷ the LORD of hosts, and I will remove¹ the iniquity of that land in one day.

In that day, saith⁷ the LORD of hosts, shall ye call⁴ every man his neighbour under the vine and under the fig tree.
