Chapter 42

To the chief Musician,¹⁸ Maschil, ^{7919 56} for the sons of Korah.
As the hart panteth⁴ after the water brooks, so panteth⁴ my soul after thee, O God.

My soul thirsteth¹ for God, for the living God: when shall I come⁴ and appear¹¹ before God?

My tears have been my meat day and night, while they continually ³¹¹⁷ say² unto me, Where [is] thy God?

When I remember⁴ these [things], I pour out⁴ my soul in me: for I had gone⁴ with the multitude, I went¹⁰¹ with them to the house of God, with the voice of joy and praise, with a multitude that kept holyday.⁶

Why art thou cast down,¹¹³ O my soul? and [why] art thou disquieted⁴ in me? hope⁵⁴ thou in God: for I shall yet praise⁵⁵ him [for] the help of his countenance.

O my God, my soul is cast down¹¹³ within me: therefore will I remember⁴ thee from the land of Jordan, and of the Hermonites, from the hill Mizar. ⁴⁷⁰⁵

Deep calleth⁶ unto deep at the noise of thy waterspouts: all thy waves and thy billows are gone¹ over me.

[Yet] the LORD will command¹⁷ his lovingkindness in the daytime, and in the night his song [shall be] with me, [and] my prayer unto the God of my life.

I will say⁴ unto God my rock, Why hast thou forgotten¹ me? why go⁴ I mourning⁶ because of the oppression of the enemy?⁶

[As] with a sword in my bones, mine enemies⁶ reproach¹⁴ me; while they say² daily ³¹¹⁷ unto me, Where [is] thy God?

Why art thou cast down,¹¹³ O my soul? and why art thou disquieted⁴ within me? hope⁵⁴ thou in God: for I shall yet praise⁵⁵ him, [who is] the health of my countenance, and my God.
