8:1 Jesus went unto the mount of Olives. |

8:2 And early in the morning he came again into the temple, and all the people came unto him; and he sat down, and taught them. |
3 | agousin de oi grammateiV kai oi farisaioi proV auton gunaika en moiceia kateilhmmenhn kai sthsanteV authn en mesw
8:3 And the scribes and Pharisees brought unto him a woman taken in adultery; and when they had set her in the midst, |
4 | legousin autw didaskale auth h gunh kateilhfqh epautofwrw moiceuomenh
8:4 They say unto him, Master, this woman was taken in adultery, in the very act. |
5 | en de tw nomw mwshV hmin eneteilato taV toiautaV liqoboleisqai su oun ti legeiV
8:5 Now Moses in the law commanded us, that such should be stoned: but what sayest thou? |
6 | touto de elegon peirazonteV auton ina ecwsin kathgorein autou o de ihsouV katw kuyaV tw daktulw egrafen eiV thn ghn
8:6 This they said, tempting him, that they might have to accuse him. But Jesus stooped down, and with [his] finger wrote on the ground, [as though he heard them not]. |
7 | wV de epemenon erwtwnteV auton anakuyaV eipen proV autouV o anamarthtoV umwn prwtoV ton liqon ep auth baletw
8:7 So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her. |
8 | kai palin katw kuyaV egrafen eiV thn ghn
8:8 And again he stooped down, and wrote on the ground. |
9 | oi de akousanteV kai upo thV suneidhsewV elegcomenoi exhrconto eis kaq eiV arxamenoi apo twn presbuterwn ewV twn escatwn kai kateleifqh monoV o ihsouV kai h gunh en mesw estwsa
8:9 And they which heard [it], being convicted by [their own] conscience, went out one by one, beginning at the eldest, [even] unto the last: and Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst. |
10 | anakuyaV de o ihsouV kai mhdena qeasamenoV plhn thV gunaikoV eipen auth h gunh pou eisin ekeinoi oi kathgoroi sou oudeiV se katekrinen
8:10 When Jesus had lifted up himself, and saw none but the woman, he said unto her, Woman, where are those thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee? |
11 | h de eipen oudeiV kurie eipen de auth o ihsouV oude egw se katakrinw poreuou kai mhketi amartane
8:11 She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more. |
12 | palin oun o ihsouV autoiV elalhsen legwn egw eimi to fwV tou kosmou o akolouqwn emoi ou mh peripathsei en th skotia all exei to fwV thV zwhV
8:12 Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life. |
13 | eipon oun autw oi farisaioi su peri seautou martureiV h marturia sou ouk estin alhqhV
8:13 The Pharisees therefore said unto him, Thou bearest record of thyself; thy record is not true. |
14 | apekriqh ihsouV kai eipen autoiV kan egw marturw peri emautou alhqhV estin h marturia mou oti oida poqen hlqon kai pou upagw umeiV de ouk oidate poqen ercomai kai pou upagw
8:14 Jesus answered and said unto them, Though I bear record of myself, [yet] my record is true: for I know whence I came, and whither I go; but ye cannot tell whence I come, and whither I go. |
15 | umeiV kata thn sarka krinete egw ou krinw oudena
8:15 Ye judge after the flesh; I judge no man. |
16 | kai ean krinw de egw h krisiV h emh alhqhV estin oti monoV ouk eimi all egw kai o pemyaV me pathr
8:16 And yet if I judge, my judgment is true: for I am not alone, but I and the Father that sent me. |
17 | kai en tw nomw de tw umeterw gegraptai oti duo anqrwpwn h marturia alhqhV estin
8:17 It is also written in your law, that the testimony of two men is true. |
18 | egw eimi o marturwn peri emautou kai marturei peri emou o pemyaV me pathr
8:18 I am one that bear witness of myself, and the Father that sent me beareth witness of me. |
19 | elegon oun autw pou estin o pathr sou apekriqh o ihsouV oute eme oidate oute ton patera mou ei eme hdeite kai ton patera mou hdeite an
8:19 Then said they unto him, Where is thy Father? Jesus answered, Ye neither know me, nor my Father: if ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also. |
20 | tauta ta rhmata elalhsen o ihsouV en tw gazofulakiw didaskwn en tw ierw kai oudeiV epiasen auton oti oupw elhluqei h wra autou
8:20 These words spake Jesus in the treasury, as he taught in the temple: and no man laid hands on him; for his hour was not yet come. |
21 | eipen oun palin autoiV o ihsouV egw upagw kai zhthsete me kai en th amartia umwn apoqaneisqe opou egw upagw umeiV ou dunasqe elqein
8:21 Then said Jesus again unto them, I go my way, and ye shall seek me, and shall die in your sins: whither I go, ye cannot come. |
22 | elegon oun oi ioudaioi mhti apoktenei eauton oti legei opou egw upagw umeiV ou dunasqe elqein
8:22 Then said the Jews, Will he kill himself? because he saith, Whither I go, ye cannot come. |
23 | kai eipen autoiV umeiV ek twn katw este egw ek twn anw eimi umeiV ek tou kosmou toutou este egw ouk eimi ek tou kosmou toutou
8:23 And he said unto them, Ye are from beneath; I am from above: ye are of this world; I am not of this world. |
24 | eipon oun umin oti apoqaneisqe en taiV amartiaiV umwn ean gar mh pisteushte oti egw eimi apoqaneisqe en taiV amartiaiV umwn
8:24 I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am [he], ye shall die in your sins. |
25 | elegon oun autw su tiV ei kai eipen autoiV o ihsouV thn archn o ti kai lalw umin
8:25 Then said they unto him, Who art thou? And Jesus saith unto them, Even [the same] that I said unto you from the beginning. |
26 | polla ecw peri umwn lalein kai krinein all o pemyaV me alhqhV estin kagw a hkousa par autou tauta legw eiV ton kosmon
8:26 I have many things to say and to judge of you: but he that sent me is true; and I speak to the world those things which I have heard of him. |
27 | ouk egnwsan oti ton patera autoiV elegen
8:27 They understood not that he spake to them of the Father. |
28 | eipen oun autoiV o ihsouV otan uywshte ton uion tou anqrwpou tote gnwsesqe oti egw eimi kai ap emautou poiw ouden alla kaqwV edidaxen me o pathr mou tauta lalw
8:28 Then said Jesus unto them, When ye have lifted up the Son of man, then shall ye know that I am [he], and [that] I do nothing of myself; but as my Father hath taught me, I speak these things. |
29 | kai o pemyaV me met emou estin ouk afhken me monon o pathr oti egw ta aresta autw poiw pantote
8:29 And he that sent me is with me: the Father hath not left me alone; for I do always those things that please him. |
30 | tauta autou lalountoV polloi episteusan eiV auton
8:30 As he spake these words, many believed on him. |
31 | elegen oun o ihsouV proV touV pepisteukotaV autw ioudaiouV ean umeiV meinhte en tw logw tw emw alhqwV maqhtai mou este
8:31 Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, [then] are ye my disciples indeed; |
32 | kai gnwsesqe thn alhqeian kai h alhqeia eleuqerwsei umaV
8:32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. |
33 | apekriqhsan autw sperma abraam esmen kai oudeni dedouleukamen pwpote pwV su legeiV oti eleuqeroi genhsesqe
8:33 They answered him, We be Abraham's seed, and were never in bondage to any man: how sayest thou, Ye shall be made free? |
34 | apekriqh autoiV o ihsouV amhn amhn legw umin oti paV o poiwn thn amartian douloV estin thV amartiaV
8:34 Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin. |
35 | o de douloV ou menei en th oikia eiV ton aiwna o uioV menei eiV ton aiwna
8:35 And the servant abideth not in the house for ever: [but] the Son abideth ever. |
36 | ean oun o uioV umaV eleuqerwsh ontwV eleuqeroi esesqe
8:36 If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed. |
37 | oida oti sperma abraam este alla zhteite me apokteinai oti o logoV o emoV ou cwrei en umin
8:37 I know that ye are Abraham's seed; but ye seek to kill me, because my word hath no place in you. |
38 | egw o ewraka para tw patri mou lalw kai umeiV oun o ewrakate para tw patri umwn poieite
8:38 I speak that which I have seen with my Father: and ye do that which ye have seen with your father. |
39 | apekriqhsan kai eipon autw o pathr hmwn abraam estin legei autoiV o ihsouV ei tekna tou abraam hte ta erga tou abraam epoieite an
8:39 They answered and said unto him, Abraham is our father. Jesus saith unto them, If ye were Abraham's children, ye would do the works of Abraham. |
40 | nun de zhteite me apokteinai anqrwpon oV thn alhqeian umin lelalhka hn hkousa para tou qeou touto abraam ouk epoihsen
8:40 But now ye seek to kill me, a man that hath told you the truth, which I have heard of God: this did not Abraham. |
41 | umeiV poieite ta erga tou patroV umwn eipon oun autw hmeiV ek porneiaV ou gegennhmeqa ena patera ecomen ton qeon
8:41 Ye do the deeds of your father. Then said they to him, We be not born of fornication; we have one Father, [even] God. |
42 | eipen oun autoiV o ihsouV ei o qeoV pathr umwn hn hgapate an eme egw gar ek tou qeou exhlqon kai hkw oude gar ap emautou elhluqa all ekeinoV me apesteilen
8:42 Jesus said unto them, If God were your Father, ye would love me: for I proceeded forth and came from God; neither came I of myself, but he sent me. |
43 | diati thn lalian thn emhn ou ginwskete oti ou dunasqe akouein ton logon ton emon
8:43 Why do ye not understand my speech? [even] because ye cannot hear my word. |
44 | umeiV ek patroV tou diabolou este kai taV epiqumiaV tou patroV umwn qelete poiein ekeinoV anqrwpoktonoV hn ap archV kai en th alhqeia ouc esthken oti ouk estin alhqeia en autw otan lalh to yeudoV ek twn idiwn lalei oti yeusthV estin kai o pathr autou
8:44 Ye are of [your] father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it. |
45 | egw de oti thn alhqeian legw ou pisteuete moi
8:45 And because I tell [you] the truth, ye believe me not. |
46 | tiV ex umwn elegcei me peri amartiaV ei de alhqeian legw diati umeiV ou pisteuete moi
8:46 Which of you convinceth me of sin? And if I say the truth, why do ye not believe me? |
47 | o wn ek tou qeou ta rhmata tou qeou akouei dia touto umeiV ouk akouete oti ek tou qeou ouk este
8:47 He that is of God heareth God's words: ye therefore hear [them] not, because ye are not of God. |
48 | apekriqhsan oun oi ioudaioi kai eipon autw ou kalwV legomen hmeiV oti samareithV ei su kai daimonion eceiV
8:48 Then answered the Jews, and said unto him, Say we not well that thou art a Samaritan, and hast a devil? |
49 | apekriqh ihsouV egw daimonion ouk ecw alla timw ton patera mou kai umeiV atimazete me
8:49 Jesus answered, I have not a devil; but I honour my Father, and ye do dishonour me. |
50 | egw de ou zhtw thn doxan mou estin o zhtwn kai krinwn
8:50 And I seek not mine own glory: there is one that seeketh and judgeth. |
51 | amhn amhn legw umin ean tiV ton logon ton emon thrhsh qanaton ou mh qewrhsh eiV ton aiwna
8:51 Verily, verily, I say unto you, If a man keep my saying, he shall never see death. |
52 | eipon oun autw oi ioudaioi nun egnwkamen oti daimonion eceiV abraam apeqanen kai oi profhtai kai su legeiV ean tiV ton logon mou thrhsh ou mh geusetai qanatou eiV ton aiwna
8:52 Then said the Jews unto him, Now we know that thou hast a devil. Abraham is dead, and the prophets; and thou sayest, If a man keep my saying, he shall never taste of death. |
53 | mh su meizwn ei tou patroV hmwn abraam ostiV apeqanen kai oi profhtai apeqanon tina seauton su poieiV
8:53 Art thou greater than our father Abraham, which is dead? and the prophets are dead: whom makest thou thyself? |
54 | apekriqh ihsouV ean egw doxazw emauton h doxa mou ouden estin estin o pathr mou o doxazwn me on umeiV legete oti qeoV umwn estin
8:54 Jesus answered, If I honour myself, my honour is nothing: it is my Father that honoureth me; of whom ye say, that he is your God: |
55 | kai ouk egnwkate auton egw de oida auton kai ean eipw oti ouk oida auton esomai omoioV umwn yeusthV all oida auton kai ton logon autou thrw
8:55 Yet ye have not known him; but I know him: and if I should say, I know him not, I shall be a liar like unto you: but I know him, and keep his saying. |
56 | abraam o pathr umwn hgalliasato ina idh thn hmeran thn emhn kai eiden kai ecarh
8:56 Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day: and he saw [it], and was glad. |
57 | eipon oun oi ioudaioi proV auton penthkonta eth oupw eceiV kai abraam ewrakaV
8:57 Then said the Jews unto him, Thou art not yet fifty years old, and hast thou seen Abraham? |
58 | eipen autoiV o ihsouV amhn amhn legw umin prin abraam genesqai egw eimi
8:58 Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am. |
59 | hran oun liqouV ina balwsin ep auton ihsouV de ekrubh kai exhlqen ek tou ierou dielqwn dia mesou autwn kai parhgen outwV
8:59 Then took they up stones to cast at him: but Jesus hid himself, and went out of the temple, going through the midst of them, and so passed by. |
