Chapter 4

agaphtoi mh panti pneumati pisteuete alla dokimazete ta pneumata ei ek tou qeou estin oti polloi yeudoprofhtai exelhluqasin eiV ton kosmon
4:1 Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.

en toutw ginwskete to pneuma tou qeou pan pneuma o omologei ihsoun criston en sarki elhluqota ek tou qeou estin
4:2 Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God:

kai pan pneuma o mh omologei ton ihsoun criston en sarki elhluqota ek tou qeou ouk estin kai touto estin to tou anticristou o akhkoate oti ercetai kai nun en tw kosmw estin hdh
4:3 And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that [spirit] of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.

umeiV ek tou qeou este teknia kai nenikhkate autouV oti meizwn estin o en umin h o en tw kosmw
4:4 Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.

autoi ek tou kosmou eisin dia touto ek tou kosmou lalousin kai o kosmoV autwn akouei
4:5 They are of the world: therefore speak they of the world, and the world heareth them.

hmeiV ek tou qeou esmen o ginwskwn ton qeon akouei hmwn oV ouk estin ek tou qeou ouk akouei hmwn ek toutou ginwskomen to pneuma thV alhqeiaV kai to pneuma thV planhV
4:6 We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error.

agaphtoi agapwmen allhlouV oti h agaph ek tou qeou estin kai paV o agapwn ek tou qeou gegennhtai kai ginwskei ton qeon
4:7 Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God.

o mh agapwn ouk egnw ton qeon oti o qeoV agaph estin
4:8 He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.

en toutw efanerwqh h agaph tou qeou en hmin oti ton uion autou ton monogenh apestalken o qeoV eiV ton kosmon ina zhswmen di autou
4:9 In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him.

en toutw estin h agaph ouc oti hmeiV hgaphsamen ton qeon all oti autoV hgaphsen hmaV kai apesteilen ton uion autou ilasmon peri twn amartiwn hmwn
4:10 Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son [to be] the propitiation for our sins.

agaphtoi ei outwV o qeoV hgaphsen hmaV kai hmeiV ofeilomen allhlouV agapan
4:11 Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another.

qeon oudeiV pwpote teqeatai ean agapwmen allhlouV o qeoV en hmin menei kai h agaph autou teteleiwmenh estin en hmin
4:12 No man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and his love is perfected in us.

en toutw ginwskomen oti en autw menomen kai autoV en hmin oti ek tou pneumatoV autou dedwken hmin
4:13 Hereby know we that we dwell in him, and he in us, because he hath given us of his Spirit.

kai hmeiV teqeameqa kai marturoumen oti o pathr apestalken ton uion swthra tou kosmou
4:14 And we have seen and do testify that the Father sent the Son [to be] the Saviour of the world.

oV an omologhsh oti ihsouV estin o uioV tou qeou o qeoV en autw menei kai autoV en tw qew
4:15 Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him, and he in God.

kai hmeiV egnwkamen kai pepisteukamen thn agaphn hn ecei o qeoV en hmin o qeoV agaph estin kai o menwn en th agaph en tw qew menei kai o qeoV en autw
4:16 And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him.

en toutw teteleiwtai h agaph meq hmwn ina parrhsian ecwmen en th hmera thV krisewV oti kaqwV ekeinoV estin kai hmeiV esmen en tw kosmw toutw
4:17 Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world.

foboV ouk estin en th agaph all h teleia agaph exw ballei ton fobon oti o foboV kolasin ecei o de foboumenoV ou teteleiwtai en th agaph
4:18 There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.

hmeiV agapwmen auton oti autoV prwtoV hgaphsen hmaV
4:19 We love him, because he first loved us.

ean tiV eiph oti agapw ton qeon kai ton adelfon autou mish yeusthV estin o gar mh agapwn ton adelfon autou on ewraken ton qeon on ouc ewraken pwV dunatai agapan
4:20 If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen?

kai tauthn thn entolhn ecomen ap autou ina o agapwn ton qeon agapa kai ton adelfon autou
4:21 And this commandment have we from him, That he who loveth God love his brother also.
